Edit Answer for another -2 minute I am going to asssume your pump also provides the circulation for the pool cleaning equipment. I also have to make some assumptions about your pool’s plumbing, which might or might not be right. Also, when testing do not run the pump for more than a few seconds at a time, because you do not know how much water it is getting – the psi might be just air pressure against the filter tank static head.
I would open a drain valve somewhere downstream of the pump and make sure it is pumping at least a slight flow of water before running it more than about 5 seconds at a time for testing. It would be helpful if while you do the checking, you had a family member turning the pump on and off so it runs as little as possible. Unless you have separate intakes or your primary water intake is at the deep end drain which some modern pools no longer use as the primary return because of the suction drowning cases in recent years , the system needs water to run, and some pull primarily or solely from the gutter.

I have a hayword pro series sand filter. When I go to vacuum Customer Question the filter fills up with When I go to vacuum the filter fills up with air. I fill the vacuum hose using the pool return so its full and leave everything underwater when I hook it up to the vacuum inlet which is on the side of the pool not in then skimmer. I have a coupler on the hose so it fits in the inlet. I shut the pump off and then turn the valve from skimmer to vacuum. When I start vacuuming I can see water moving thru the skimmer by the pump.
After a while I start loosing suction and there is hardly any water going thru the skimmer. Then I have to “burp” the filter by removing the backwash valve to let all the air out. Also there is some sort of removable plate underneath the pool skimmer basket, witl a sliding piece which seems to be able to regulate the water flow, but I dont know exactly what this does Submitted:

The most common water filter cartridges which available in the market are as follows: This is normally used as pre-filter due to its ability to remove sand fine particles silt cryptosporidium and turbidity from your water.
Sediment filters are normally rated by the size of particles they remove in microns One micron is one-thousandth of a millimeter. The smaller microns remove smaller sediments and the bigger microns remove bigger sediments. Typically with a brand new cartridge installed the pressure should be between 8 and After usage of 2 to 8 weeks depending on the size of your filter check the pressure gauge again if its up near 20 then its time to clean the cartridge. Cleaning your cartridge with a garden hose or any other means will be sufficient for normal maintenance just to remove debris from the filter.
After cleaning and reinserting the cartridge you should see the pressure gauge go back down to the 8 to 14 range. This indicates the filter cleaning was successful and your pool should again filter normally.

Manufactured from durable, corrosion-proof materials, it is designed for continuous operation, for installation above or below the pool water line, for fresh or salt water swimming pools. The EC40 filter uses diatomite filter powder commonly called D. It is normally fed into the system through the skimmer when the filter is initially started; then drained from the filter when its dirt holding capacity has been reached.
When the filter powder is totally used, the “BUMP” action makes it possible to drain the used diatomite without backwashing or dismantling the filter. To power your Perflex filter, select a continuous duty pump designed for swimming pool service.
The sand inside a sand filter system blocks debris, dirt, and oil. The backwash reverses the flow of water and expels the dirty water via a waste line into the ground or drain. Turn on the pump and backwash for 2 minutes or until the water in the sight glass (located on the filter) runs clear.
Pool Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid 1. Vacuuming large debris through skimmer without using a leaf trap. A leaf trap has a bag inside for catching debris and is placed between the end of your pool vacuum hose and the skimmer. It keeps leaves from clogging your skimmer line when you vacuum. It’s OK to not to use a leaf trap as long as you are vacuuming small things that can’t clog the skimmer line, but never go without it when sucking out acorns, sticks, large quantities of leaves, etc.
This can lead to a service call to unclog the skimmer line. It’s the best on the market! Vacuuming algae or large amounts of dirt with multi-port valve set in “Filter” position. The “Filter” position is the correct multi-port valve setting for vacuuming a relatively clean pool. That is the setting we use on our normal weekly cleaning vacuum jobs. However, when vacuuming a pool that has just had it’s mesh safety cover removed and is covered with a layer of fine dust, the multi-port valve setting should be “Waste”.
This also applies to a pool covered with algae or lots of dirt. If you use the “Filter” setting in these cases while vacuuming, you will notice the dust or algae blowing right back into the pool through the returns in the wall of the pool. When we are called in to help solve pool problems, and we see a bright fluorescent green colored pool water, we know this mistake has been made.
